The impressive view over the Argolic Gulf with the town of Nafplio and the surrounding country in the Peloponnese region of southern Greece from Palamidi fortress. One can see the Akronafplia, the oldest part of the city with its fortress, and the castle of Bourtzi (1473) in the middle of the harbour of Nafplio; the central beach of Nafplio is also partly seen at the base of the hill. Nestled on the crest of a 216-metre high hill, Palamidi fortress was built by the Venetians during their second occupation of the area (1686–1715). There are over one thousand steps in the winding stair from the town to the top of the fortress.
